BlackBerry sets patent licensing deal with Teletry

Canada's BlackBerry Ltd. has entered into a patent licensing deal with Teletry (a unit of patent licensing firm Marconi Group), to sub-license a series of its patents to worldwide smartphone manufacturers.

Blackberry indicated that it will retain its own licensing program aside from Teletry's sublicensing rights, as well as ownership to the patents and applications (approximately 40,000), which include networking infrastructure, messaging, enterprise software and cybersecurity. It chose Teletry because of a track record in licensing important patent portfolios through long-term relationships.

According to Kasim Alfalahi of Teletry,“We are happy to be working with Blackberry, and we are looking forward to working with worldwide smartphone manufacturers to sublicense these valuable patents in the industry.”
