New Weibo user agreement claims copyright on all content

SinaWeibo users have vented their fury after the micro-blogging service unilaterally amended its user agreement and claimed copyright on all content published on the platform.

The new agreement forbids users from authorizing any third party to obtain content from Weibo without its written consent, even if it is an original post by the user themselves.

In addition, in the case of copyright violation, users shall assist Weibo in maintaining its legal rights.

In response, Weibo CEO Wang Gaofei says users can directly send content to a third party to have it published instead.
