Patent Transaction

WIPC helps businesses, inventors, universities, and other owners of patents and other forms of Intellectual Property to uncover the hidden value and monetize their IP assets.

Patent Sales

WIPC patent sales services are used by everyone from small inventors to large companies to sell their patents through WIPC extensive network of patent purchasing entities. Our team works on a patent sale contingency basis and in most cases no upfront fees are necessary. Each patent or patent portfolio is analyzed using WIPC's proprietary methods and algorithms to determine the best sales price and best entities suited to purchasing the patent(s). Each portfolio is setup in an auction, fixed price or reserve price format allowing our team to customize and tailor each deal to our client's specifications.

Patent Buying

WIPC can represent buyers of patents and other IP on a confidential basis. When acquiring intellectual property, confidentiality is important because once word is out that a company is acquiring IP in a specific area, the price goes up! Also, letting the public know a company’s IP acquisition plans puts the company at a competitive disadvantage by letting others know in which areas its new product development programs are expanding. We identify and contact the selected patent owners to enable the availability of the targeted patents. The ultimate goal is ensuring the appropriate patent is acquired at the cheapest price for the client. Let us help guide you through the process of patent buying.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What will a patent broker cost?

WIPC represents most patent sellers on a contingency basis. That means we are paid a commission on the revenue we generate for you, our client and the patent owner. For companies wishing to acquire patents and other IP, we charge a campaign fee and earn a success fee based on the results we produce for our client.

2. Should I sell or license my patent?

Yes! By that we mean that you should consider and weigh both options. Because of our expertise and experience buying, selling and licensing patents, we can help you assess the best strategy for your organization, then help you implement a plan that will produce an optimal return on your IP assets. Your goal should be optimizing your patent’s value, and that is an area in which we can provide valuable expertise. For one patent, selling it might make sense, while for another patent, licensing might be far more profitable.

3. If we do manage to license our patent, how are the royalties normally paid?

Royalties can be paid monthly, quarterly or annually, but quarterly is the most common. And royalties can be based on unit or dollar sales. Another option that some licensees elect to use is to project the unit or dollar sales of the product or service that uses the patent over the life of the patent, and then pay a single lump sum fee for the license. The most common arrangement is an upfront payment for past sales, if any, and ongoing royalties for the life of the patent for as long as the licensed product/service continues to be sold.
